The dimension of the information-energy relationship
It might be of interest to add a brief introduction that serves as explanation for the following text. This abstract has been written in Autumn 2017 and was meant to be presented at ENERGIZING FUTURES – Sustainable Development and Energy in Transition, 13–14 June 2018, Tampere, Finland. However, due to the ongoing conflict with Finland Futures Research Center, I decided not to present. I intended to create a safe space for myself with beginning to work on topics that relate to the future of the Bioage, of which I am personally very fond of, and thus, to distance myself from the negative influence from FFRC that certainly affected me, of which I hope, I will be strong enough that it won’t continue to impact me anymore in the future, beginning from now! Bullying has to be strictly opposed at work places as well as in class rooms, since it is a hell for those who have to suffer from the consequences that seem to be institutionally, willfully ignored, and partly even be supported as structural, symbolic, anonymous, systemic violence, executed by submissive individuals, who conform to in-group groupthink.
Metaphorical, spiritual, physical, biological, or meta-philosophical, the dimension of the information-energy relationship (bits & atoms) implies an illusive distinction between the terms information and energy, a semantic abstraction that we tend to accept in a world of fragmented thought. If we however take the stance that information and energy are both not created or formed, but are deciphered and converted in form, then we can follow a particular interpretation that is essentially tangent to the old Platonic discussions about whether or not we “create” or “discover” knowledge and formulas. Thus, information and energy ubiquitously surround us, and both, we therefore seek to understand, in order to utilize them for our civilization’s progress. Questioning the assumptions as well as the anticipations upon which our commitment towards the realization of scientific and technological future endeavors, and its relation to information-energy consumption are based, is urgent and overdue.
The objective is, referring to Mumford’s Megamachine; the underlying necessity to comprehend our own individual, collective and systemic information-energy constitution, as strivings, ambitions, and desires, in order to develop and establish the symphony and symbiosis of the information-energy relationship that essentially enables sustainable energy futures on a systemic level, empowering mankind through the unleashing of the potential of the super-organism, based on each individual cell in evolutionary terms as a continuous self-actualization and self-realization.
This transdisciplinary auto-ethnographic studies applies Complex Realism. It utilizes futures visioning to align various perspectives and integrate different theoretical frameworks in order to holistically and coherently depict what might eventually be as well as what might eventually become.
The bio-digital fusion exemplifies this emergent acknowledgement. While biomimicry on the one hand offers us an holistic design approach that seeks an ecological balance by avoiding depletion, while tackling human challenges, aligning our solutions through emulating nature’s time-tested patterns and strategies, biomorphism on the other hand represents the invested interest in the art of shapes and patterns occurring in nature and living organism. Both indicate an attraction towards realizing the pathway in the direction of biopunk images of the future, which in a distinct and reflected version might reveal obvious solutions to our current wicked problems.
We argue that continuous paradigm shifts in better understanding the dimension of the information-energy relationship leads to a successful transition on the Kardashev scale, from Type 0 civilization towards Type I civilization, namely, a planetary civilization, which literally expresses an entirely new way of living and being.
